Updated: Apr 26, 2023

On April 20, 2023 the Preservancy hosted its Annual Meeting at the Riverdale Y. Speakers Jessica Haller (President, Riverdale Nature Preservancy), Christina Taylor (Deputy Director, Van Cortlandt Park Alliance), Nick Dembowski (President, Kingsbridge Historical Society), and Eric Dinowitz (Council Member, District 11) shared information on protection of our natural areas and historic properties with community members.

Preservancy president Jessica Haller offered a brief summary of how SNAD zoning protects natural features in our area, and what a local resident can do if they observe destruction of protected trees or other greenery. Click below to view highlights on Youtube.

Kingbridge Historical Society President Nick Dembowski shared fascinating pictures of a past Spuyten Duyvil which was a rural community centered around the Johnson Foundry. How did the KHS acquire historic Edgehill Church? What needs to happen to upgrade this beautiful historic building so that it can return to being used as a community space? Click below to hear more on Youtube.

Council Member Eric Dinowitz joined us and shared updates on green space and preservation. One matter he covered was funding, which is critical to maintaining safe and accessible green spaces in our community. Hear more on Youtube by clicking below.

Van Cordtlandt Park Alliance Deputy Director Christina Taylor explains daylilghting. What is it? Why does it matter? What problems will be solved in our community by daylighting Tibbetts Brook?

Enjoy pictures from the event!

Attendees engaged in interesting conversations, enjoyed light refreshments, and had an opportunity to take home a Preservancy mug, sapling or shrub, and a SNAD Awareness sign! The trees were donated by Bronx Is Blooming.
